US Adds Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority to Sanctions List
The US Treasury has designated Iran's Persian Gulf Strait Authority on a sanctions list to restrict Tehran's control over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States Department of the Treasury announced the addition of Iran's "Persian Gulf Strait Authority" to a special sanctions list, aiming to tighten pressure on Tehran regarding the regulation of vessel passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Treasury clarified that this authority was established by Iranian officials to manage and regulate transit requests through the strait, a critical maritime passageway through which a significant portion of global oil shipments pass.
According to the Treasury, placing the authority on the sanctions list will limit its ability to engage in international financial transactions and may impose prohibitions on dealings by US institutions and individuals with it. Additionally, secondary restrictions could affect non-US parties that conduct business with the authority.
The sanctions are intended to reduce the authority's capacity to collect and manage resources used to support activities that the United States considers harmful to regional security.
So far, there has been no broad official response from Iranian authorities regarding the US announcement. However, Tehran typically condemns US sanctions, describing them as "unilateral sanctions" that undermine diplomatic dialogue efforts.
