Will Trump and Pezeshkian Meet?

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian left the door ajar for a potential meeting with US President Donald Trump, avoiding a definitive stance despite being asked repeatedly during an interview with "CBS" network.

When host Margaret Brennan directly asked him if he was ready to meet Trump, Pezeshkian redirected the discussion to the crisis of trust between Tehran and Washington, recalling the United States' withdrawal from the nuclear deal, sanctions, and strikes Iran had suffered.
With Brennan's insistence and her question: "So the answer is no? You won't meet him?", the Iranian president again refrained from giving a categorical answer, saying that the priority is knowing what both parties want to agree on, and whether written commitments will actually be implemented.

Regarding the nuclear file, Pezeshkian expressed Tehran's readiness to negotiate restrictions on its program within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, confirming that Iran does not seek to manufacture a nuclear bomb.

As for the return of International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors, Pezeshkian did not agree to immediately resume inspection operations under previous arrangements, but he pointed to the possibility of reaching a new oversight formula within any upcoming negotiations.

The interview reflected the size of the gap still separating Tehran and Washington, but it also revealed that the door to negotiation has not been completely closed. Even when Pezeshkian was asked at the end of the dialogue if he was prepared to invite Trump to Iran, he returned to the same condition: rebuilding trust first.
