World Cup 2026
Teen star Lamine Yamal tops Spain's 55-man preliminary World Cup roster, with veteran Dani Carvajal left out by coach Luis de la Fuente.

Barcelona dominates Spain's preliminary 55-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with nine players called up compared to just three from Real Madrid. The list, announced by head coach Luis de la Fuente, is headlined by teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and notably excludes veteran defender Dani Carvajal.
Spanish media reports indicate De la Fuente personally informed Carvajal of his omission during a phone call days ago, despite having relied on the right-back as a regular starter when fit for "La Roja" in recent campaigns.
The Catalan club's contingent features Yamal, Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, and Pau Cubarsi among its nine selections. Real Madrid's three representatives are Dean Huijsen, Fran Garcia, and striker Gonzalo Garcia.
According to Marca, the preliminary roster contains several unexpected names. These include Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman, Sporting Braga's Victor Gomez, Sergio Gomez, Real Sociedad's Jon Martin, Deportivo Alaves striker Toni Martinez, and Aston Villa defender Pau Torres.
Spain will begin their World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta, as part of Group 8 which also includes Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
