Gemini Spark AI Assistant Launches on Mac with Expanded Features
Google has introduced Gemini Spark on Mac, enhancing its AI assistant with real-time updates and integrations with Google Tasks, Keep, and third-party apps.

On Wednesday, Google announced the availability of Gemini Spark, its AI assistant, on Mac through the Gemini desktop app. This update includes new features such as real-time topic tracking and expanded connectivity to applications like Google Tasks and Google Keep.
The macOS version of Gemini Spark aims to compete with other desktop AI assistants like Claude Desktop, Microsoft’s Copilot, and OpenClaw by offering capabilities to interact with local files on the computer and, in future updates, manage remote tasks. Google indicated that users will soon be able to assign multi-step commands on mobile devices, enabling the desktop agent to retrieve information from Mac files.
Currently, Spark can assist with organizing and sorting files or using computer files as a basis for creating new Google Workspace documents or spreadsheets. Google provided an example where Spark converts invoices stored on a computer into a budgeting worksheet.
At present, Gemini Spark for macOS is in beta and accessible exclusively to Google AI Ultra subscribers within the United States.
Following the initial launch last month, Google addressed earlier user feedback by integrating Spark with Google Keep, the company’s notes application, alongside Google Tasks. This enhancement caters to simpler note-taking needs, such as managing short lists, which previously required more complex tools like Google Docs.
Additionally, Spark now supports various third-party applications, including Canva, Dropbox, Instacart, OpenTable, and Zillow Rentals. These integrations enable the assistant to perform diverse activities such as booking restaurant tables, ordering groceries, designing promotional materials, and scheduling apartment viewings.
Gemini Spark’s new real-time tracking feature allows it to monitor topics and respond to events like sports scores, stock market changes, and breaking news. It can also observe developments across social media, blogs, online shopping platforms, and weather updates.
Moreover, Google is introducing support for a custom Model Context Protocol (MCP), which permits users to connect preferred applications directly to Spark, facilitating a more personalized assistant experience tailored to individual requirements.
