Google has launched its AI-based Nano Banana image generation feature for eligible free users in the US, previously limited to paid subscribers.

Google has extended access to its AI-driven image generation feature, powered by the Nano Banana technology, to a broader base of eligible free users in the United States. Previously, this tool was available only to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra plans.
This capability allows users to create AI-generated images using much shorter prompts by leveraging the context from connected Google services. The feature is part of Google's Gemini suite and relies on personal intelligence to tailor image creation to individual preferences.
The image generation function in Gemini utilizes a personal intelligence model that helps the AI understand user preferences by accessing data from linked Google services such as Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search. This approach enables Gemini to produce more accurate and personalized images without requiring users to provide lengthy instructions.
For instance, users can simply input a prompt like "design my dream house" instead of detailing architectural styles, colors, or decorations. Similarly, a user can ask Gemini to "create an illustration of me and my favorite things," and the application will automatically incorporate photos stored in Google Photos rather than requesting manual uploads.
To utilize this feature, users must first activate the personal intelligence option and link supported Google services to the Gemini app. Google emphasizes that this feature is entirely optional and requires explicit user consent before Gemini can access any personal data.
Once enabled, Gemini can draw context from connected applications to generate customized images. Users maintain control over which Google services Gemini can access and can revoke permissions or disable the personal intelligence feature at any time via the "Tools" menu within the Gemini app.
