Arsenal Advances in Pursuit of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers Ahead of Man United
Arsenal is preparing to make an official move for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, positioning themselves ahead of Manchester United and other clubs in the transfer race.

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has attracted intense interest this summer, with Arsenal reportedly preparing to make the first official approach to secure the versatile attacker’s signature, placing them ahead of Manchester United and other contenders.
Potential Successor to Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain, will turn 32 in September, prompting the club to consider long-term replacements. Rogers is seen by Old Trafford officials as a possible successor who could eventually play alongside Fernandes rather than immediately replace him.
Rogers has demonstrated his adaptability and skill for both club and country. His performances at the World Cup for England highlighted his ability to operate on either wing or as a central attacking midfielder, utilizing his dribbling, ball-carrying, and physical attributes, including his 6’2″ stature combined with pace and power, which suit the Premier League’s demands.
Rogers’ Performance and Club Situation
Since transferring to Aston Villa in 2024 from Middlesbrough, where he was coached by Michael Carrick, Rogers has accumulated 31 goals and 29 assists in 125 appearances. Last season alone, he contributed 26 goal involvements across all competitions, averaging a goal contribution every two games.
Aston Villa secured Champions League qualification by finishing fourth in the league and also won the Europa League with a 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg. Despite their success, the club is reportedly open to negotiating Rogers’ sale this summer to maximize the transfer fee, especially as the player is said to be eager for a move. Interest in Rogers extends beyond England’s top clubs to several European heavyweights.
Manchester United’s Connections and Competition
United’s connections to Rogers include Michael Carrick, who previously managed him, and sporting director Jason Wilcox, who shares a history with Rogers from their time at Manchester City’s academy. Both remain strong advocates for the player, believing he can fill Fernandes’ role in the future.
However, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City have all expressed interest in Rogers, with Paris Saint-Germain also reportedly admiring the player. Arsenal, following their recent Premier League title win, are actively pursuing Rogers as a key target to enhance their attacking options, which lacked creativity last season despite their overall success.
Arsenal’s Advancing Negotiations
Sources indicate that Arsenal has made significant progress in discussions with Rogers’ representatives and is preparing an official bid to Aston Villa. The club is believed to be the player’s preferred destination. Aston Villa publicly maintain that Rogers is not for sale, though privately they recognize the possibility of a deal. They are expected to demand a record-breaking fee, potentially making Rogers the most expensive English player ever, referencing Manchester City’s £116 million acquisition of Elliot Anderson as a negotiation benchmark.
Alongside Liverpool, Manchester United continues to monitor the situation closely, while Chelsea and Manchester City remain in the competition. Nonetheless, Arsenal is widely regarded as the frontrunner in this transfer pursuit.
Manchester United’s Transfer Priorities
Manchester United is focusing on a significant midfield overhaul this summer but is also seeking reinforcements in attacking positions. A new left winger is a priority, along with a forward more dependable than Joshua Zirkzee. Signing Rogers would address the winger requirement and allow Matheus Cunha to play as a central striker, a role in which he excelled for Brazil during the World Cup.
While a record-breaking offer from Manchester United for Rogers seems unlikely, acquiring him would represent a transformative addition to Carrick’s attacking lineup and provide a long-term heir to Fernandes at Old Trafford.
