Arsenal officially signed 28-year-old Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United on a four-year contract with an option to extend by one year, in a deal valued at approximately £75 million ($101.16 million).
Arsenal, the English Premier League champions, confirmed on Saturday the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United. The club announced a four-year contract for the 28-year-old, with an option to extend for a further year.
The North London club reached an agreement reportedly worth around £75 million sterling—equivalent to $101.16 million—according to British media outlets. Guimarães, a key figure in the Premier League midfield, joins under head coach Mikel Arteta.
Before joining the Gunners, Guimarães made his senior debut for São Paulo-based club Audax in 2015. Two years later, he moved to Atlético Paranaense, where he emerged as one of Brazil’s most prominent young midfielders. During his time there, he contributed to the club’s capture of four major titles.
In January 2020, he transferred to French side Olympique Lyonnais. Over two standout seasons in Ligue 1, he solidified his reputation as one of Europe’s leading midfield talents.
Guimarães is an experienced Brazilian international, having appeared in 48 matches for the national team. He represented Brazil at the most significant global football competitions, including the most recent FIFA World Cup and the Copa América. He also won an Olympic gold medal with Brazil at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
His arrival is expected to significantly strengthen Arsenal’s midfield as the club aims to retain its English Premier League title.
