Mikel Arteta described his side’s 3-0 loss to Brighton as deeply disappointing, citing both the performance and the result in an interview with Sky Sports immediately after the match. “I feel extremely disappointed by the performance and the result,” he said.

The Spanish head coach acknowledged Brighton’s superiority on the day, stating that the Seagulls outplayed Arsenal emphatically and delivered a significantly higher standard of play. He added that Arsenal’s own display was “extremely poor” and fell short of showing adequate respect to their opponents.

Brighton’s performance and the lessons learned

Arteta praised Brighton, saying the club deserved commendation for its display. He characterized the match as an important lesson that must be fully absorbed. At the same time, he emphasized that the defeat does not diminish what Arsenal has achieved in recent weeks.

He stressed the need to ensure the team learns from the experience, warning that a similar scenario could recur unless corrective action is taken.

League standings after the loss

The loss marked Arsenal’s first defeat across all competitions this season. The defending Premier League champions now sit second in the table with 12 points, level on points with Manchester City but behind on goal difference. Manchester City are scheduled to host Sunderland on Sunday.
