Atletico Madrid is interested in signing Chelsea's Marc Cucurella amid Xabi Alonso's plans to keep key players.

Atletico Madrid has shown interest in acquiring Marc Cucurella from Chelsea during the upcoming transfer window, according to Sky Sports.
Chelsea's new manager, Xabi Alonso, who signed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and officially takes charge on July 1, is expected to prioritize retaining his key players, including Cucurella.
The Spaniard was considered the best managerial option available to Chelsea, and the club aims to back him fully by protecting his core squad members.
Cucurella, who wears the No. 3 shirt at Chelsea, is contracted until June 2028. Alonso values him highly, seeing him as a vital component in his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, especially in the left wing-back position.
During the current season, the 27-year-old has contributed four assists across 33 Premier League appearances, mainly operating as a left-back, providing a significant attacking threat for the Blues.
Barcelona remains interested in Cucurella but intends to focus on converting Joao Cancelo's loan from Al-Hilal into a permanent deal instead.
