Reports suggest that Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon is set to join Barcelona, with the Spanish club currently leading the competition for his signature. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that an agreement with Gordon is already in place.

Two other major contenders for the 25-year-old forward, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, are now anticipated to be unsuccessful in securing his transfer. Gordon reportedly prefers a move to Spain, attracted by the project at Barcelona under manager Hansi Flick, sporting director Deco, and president Joan Laporta.

Barcelona's recent visit to London, involving Deco and his assistants Bojan Krkic and Joao Amaral, was a key factor in advancing negotiations. Although the delegation also met with Chelsea forward Joao Pedro, their primary focus was on securing Gordon's commitment, which has influenced the player's preference.

Gordon's ambition is to play at Camp Nou, and official discussions are ongoing between Newcastle and Barcelona to finalize the transfer. Barcelona is acting swiftly to outpace rival clubs in the race for the English international.

Earlier interest from Bayern Munich was reported weeks ago, followed by Liverpool's recent efforts to acquire Gordon. Liverpool, facing a challenging season and the potential departure of star player Mo Salah, sought to strengthen their attack by pursuing the former Everton player. However, these attempts appear to have been unsuccessful as Gordon favors Barcelona.

While Barcelona has agreed on personal terms with Gordon, the club still faces financial challenges due to his contract with Newcastle, which runs until 2030. Newcastle had previously valued Gordon between 85 and 90 million euros, a figure Barcelona is reluctant to meet.

Gordon's salary is reportedly manageable within Barcelona's budget for a new striker, and his eagerness to join the club could positively impact negotiations. The Catalan club is aiming for a five-year contract with the player.

Barcelona expects Gordon to add depth to the squad, particularly on the left flank where he can provide support. The Brazilian player Raphinha, who is the first choice for that position, has missed several matches this season due to injury. Additionally, Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from Manchester United, is expected to leave Barcelona.

Gordon's versatility allows him to play centrally as well, offering cover for the anticipated departure of Robert Lewandowski. His arrival reduces the immediate need for Barcelona to sign a dedicated centre-forward.

Despite pursuing a traditional No. 9, Barcelona's sporting director Deco can approach the transfer market with more confidence having Gordon on the roster.
