Douglas Costa Highlights Key Contrast Between Guardiola and Ancelotti
Douglas Costa reveals the main difference between Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, emphasizing tactical focus versus player management after his Bayern Munich experience.

Douglas Costa has identified the primary distinction between Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti based on his time playing under both coaches at Bayern Munich. The former Brazil winger spent two seasons with Guardiola before Ancelotti took over at the German club, noting that each achieved success through different methods.
Contrasting Coaching Styles at Bayern Munich
Costa described Guardiola as deeply invested in tactical preparation, studying every detail meticulously. In contrast, Ancelotti was praised for his exceptional human management skills and ability to maintain strong relationships within the squad. "Guardiola and Ancelotti are different because one lives for tactics and studies everything down to the smallest detail, while the other has extraordinary human management skills," Costa said during an interview with diretta.
Potential Future for Guardiola in International Football
Amid ongoing speculation about Guardiola's future at Manchester City, Costa suggested that the Italy national team could benefit from his leadership. He called such a move a "wonderful turning point," highlighting Guardiola as the best coach of all time despite the challenges of managing a national team with limited time to instill tactical identity. "For me, Pep is the best coach of all time, although managing a national team is different than managing a club because you don't have much time to convey your tactical identity," Costa remarked.
Upcoming Priorities for Both Coaches
This summer, Guardiola is set to manage Manchester City in their final Premier League game against Aston Villa, following their loss to Arsenal in the title race. Reports indicate Guardiola will then step down, with Enzo Maresca expected to succeed him. Meanwhile, Ancelotti will focus on guiding Brazil at the 2026 World Cup, where the Selecao will compete in Group C against Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland in North America.
