UEFA announced Ferran Torres as the winner of the Player of the Week award for the opening matchday of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League group stage. The Spanish forward, who recently joined Paris Saint-Germain, earned the honor following his standout performance against Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava.

Torres’ Hat-Trick Seals Top Spot

Torres scored three goals in PSG’s 6–1 home victory over Slovan Bratislava, delivering a decisive offensive display that propelled his team to a commanding win. His tally accounted for half of PSG’s six goals and marked his first competitive hat-trick for the club since his transfer.

Runner-Up and Third-Place Performances

Bosnian striker Ermedin Demirović finished second after also netting a hat-trick — this time for VfB Stuttgart in their 3–1 home win over Norwegian club Viking FK. Brazilian winger Raphinha placed third despite scoring twice for FC Barcelona in their 5–1 away victory against Dutch side Feyenoord.

Defender’s Dual Goals Land Fourth

Spanish defender Marc Bartra secured fourth place after scoring two goals for Real Betis in their 3–2 away win at French club Lille. Playing in central defense, Bartra became the only non-forward among the four nominees to register multiple goals in the matchday.

The four shortlisted players were featured in an official UEFA video released on the union’s website. The announcement was made on Friday, 11 September 2026. The award is sponsored by PlayStation EU and promoted under the hashtag #UCLPOTW.
