Julian Nagelsmann has resigned as Germany's national football team coach following their recent World Cup exit against Paraguay.

Julian Nagelsmann submitted his resignation as the head coach of the Germany national football team, four days after the team's painful elimination in the round of 32 at the World Cup against Paraguay, according to several German media outlets on Friday morning.
Reports from the newspaper Bild and the Sky network indicate that Nagelsmann, aged 38 and under contract until summer 2028, agreed to the German Football Association's request for him to step down. He had held the position since September 2023. This request was made following a three-hour meeting on Thursday to discuss the national team's recent World Cup failure.
The issue of Nagelsmann's successor is expected to be addressed promptly, with Jürgen Klopp, 59, emerging as the leading candidate for the role.
Klopp, after successful stints managing Mainz and Borussia Dortmund in Germany, became a legend at Liverpool, leading the club to the English Premier League title in 2020, ending a 30-year title drought, a year after winning the UEFA Champions League.
In January 2024, Klopp announced he would leave Liverpool at the end of the season after nine years with the club since his arrival in autumn 2015. Since January 1, 2025, he has served as the global football director at Red Bull, overseeing the company's affiliated clubs.
The challenge awaiting Nagelsmann's successor appears substantial, as Germany has suffered three consecutive major setbacks in World Cup finals: first-round exits in 2018 and 2022, followed by the recent round of 32 elimination against the modest Paraguay team in Boston via penalty shootout.
