Italy legend Dino Zoff supports Juventus' interest in Emiliano Martinez, emphasizing the goalkeeper's skills over his personality traits.

Italy's celebrated former goalkeeper Dino Zoff has expressed support for Juventus' pursuit of Emiliano Martinez, highlighting that the Argentine's distinctive personality does not hinder his potential success at the Turin club. Zoff also commented on the futures of Dusan Vlahovic and Domenico Berardi amid Juventus' rebuilding efforts.
Zoff, who has extensive experience guarding the goal for Juventus, appreciates the Aston Villa goalkeeper's raw talent. Despite Martinez's reputation for on-field eccentricities and a passionate temperament, Zoff prioritizes goalkeeping skill as essential for a club like Juventus.
In an interview with Tuttosport, the 1982 World Cup champion remarked, "At Juve the result counts and players are free to do what they want on the pitch as long as they contribute to the cause. It doesn't matter if a goalkeeper is eccentric or shy: as long as he knows how to save as God commands. And the Argentine has demonstrated he knows how to do it in the Premier League and for his national team. He excites me."
Reports have intensified about a potential transfer of the 33-year-old goalkeeper to Juventus. Martinez is believed to have given a verbal agreement to join the Italian club, expressing a strong interest in competing in Serie A following his successful tenure in England.
To facilitate the transfer, Martinez is reportedly ready to accept a reduction in his Premier League salary to align with Juventus' wage structure. He views the club as an ideal destination for the next phase of his career after his Europa League performances with Aston Villa.
While transfer speculation continues, Martinez remains focused on international duties with Argentina, the reigning world champions. Concerns had arisen about a fractured ring finger that might have jeopardized his participation in Argentina's 2026 World Cup opening match against Algeria.
Argentina's coach Lionel Scaloni provided an update, stating, "Emiliano is okay, Emiliano is available for tomorrow, if he does the same thing he did yesterday and the day before I think he will play." This confirmation is a significant relief for Argentina as they seek to sustain their qualifying campaign momentum.
Zoff also addressed the situation of striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has faced a disrupted season due to injuries and inconsistent form. This has fueled speculation about his long-term role at Juventus as the club manages its financial considerations.
Regarding the former Fiorentina forward, Zoff said, "If we look at the last period - between the competition of last season and the injuries of this one - it is difficult to draw an exhaustive balance, because he has played too little. I like him: I think he is a good centre-forward. It will be up to Juve to evaluate depending on availability whether or not to make an effort to keep him."
