Kroos pursues RFEF coaching license for professional tier
Toni Kroos is reportedly enrolling in a Spanish federation course to obtain a license allowing him to coach professional teams at all levels.

The 36-year-old former Germany international, Toni Kroos, is reportedly advancing his transition into management by seeking certification from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). According to Spanish newspaper As, Kroos intends to enroll in a specialized coaching program designed for current and former professionals. Completion of this course would grant him a license to manage professional squads across every competitive tier.
Current licensing status
Kroos already possesses authorization to lead teams up to the third division. However, within the professional game, his existing credentials restrict him to serving as an assistant coach. The new RFEF pathway aims to remove these limitations, enabling full managerial authority in top-flight competitions.
Retirement and recent activities
After concluding his playing career in 2024, following a final Champions League victory with Real Madrid and participation in the home European Championship that year, Kroos has remained active in football operations. He currently manages the "Toni Kroos Academy" football school in Madrid. Additionally, he co-hosts the podcast "Einfach mal Luppen" with his brother, Felix, where they analyze the sport.
Real Madrid interest
Reports indicate that Real Madrid, Kroos' former club, have attempted to recruit him for a new role. Club President Florentino Perez is said to have held discussions with the ex-midfielder, though these talks have apparently not resulted in an agreement so far. The club's efforts highlight their desire to leverage his experience despite his lack of a senior head coaching license.
Historical success and context
Kroos stands among the most decorated players in football history. His trophy cabinet includes six Champions League titles won during stints with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, along with the 2014 World Cup triumph with Germany in Brazil. Several former stars, including Zinedine Zidane, Xabi Alonso, and Alvaro Arbeloa, began their coaching journeys in Real Madrid’s youth system before progressing to first-team duties, suggesting a potential path for Kroos if he completes the required training.
Club performance since departure
Since Kroos left the squad in 2024, Real Madrid have failed to secure another major title. Under manager Jose Mourinho, the team trails arch-rivals Barcelona in the Primera Division standings. They currently occupy fourth place, sitting six points behind the league leaders.
