FC Barcelona has confirmed the signing of Croatian international goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic on a four-year agreement running through 30 June 2030. The club announced the deal following completion of medical examinations and formal negotiations with Fenerbahce SK.

The transfer involves an initial payment of €2 million to Fenerbahce, with additional performance-related clauses that could raise the total investment to €4 million. Barcelona’s official statement reads: “Agreement reached between FC Barcelona and Fenerbahce SK for the transfer of Dominik Livakovic. The Croatian keeper signs for four seasons up to 30 June 2030.”

Accelerated timeline and revised integration plan

Negotiations intensified over the past week, departing from Barcelona’s original plan to loan Livakovic out for the 2026–27 season. That earlier strategy envisioned integrating him into the first team only after Wojciech Szczesny’s contract expires next year. Instead, the club’s leadership opted to fast-track the move following Livakovic’s standout performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Role under coach Hansi Flick

Livakovic will serve as backup to Joan Garcia, who remains Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper. Szczesny is expected to occupy third-choice status during his final year at the club. With three senior goalkeepers now under contract, Flick gains tactical flexibility across La Liga and European competitions.

Arrival and formalities in Catalonia

Livakovic arrived in Catalonia earlier this week to complete the transfer process. He underwent medical checks without complications, met with the club’s board, and attended a welcome dinner at Botafumeiro restaurant alongside president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste, and his representative Andy Bara. The signing ceremony involved sporting director Deco and Bojan Krkic.
