Manchester United is intensifying efforts to secure Matheus Fernandes, with an agreement reportedly underway for a transfer fee near £85 million, while ruling out any attempt to intervene in Elliot Anderson’s anticipated move to Manchester City.

The club has already completed the signing of Ederson Silva from Atalanta for approximately £38 million and is now focusing on adding a second central midfielder this transfer window.

With expectations that Manuel Ugarte will depart following Casemiro’s exit, Manchester United planned to reinforce their midfield with at least two new players this summer.

Among several midfield candidates, Fernandes has emerged as the primary target after Manchester United withdrew interest in Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson.

Initially, Anderson was considered a highly desirable acquisition for Manchester United, but the club appears reluctant to engage in a bidding war, especially as Anderson seems inclined to join Manchester City instead.

Fernandes, who impressed during his breakout season at West Ham, is now the more probable signing, with reports suggesting Manchester United may pursue a double transfer from West Ham worth around £130 million.

Though Real Madrid also competes for Fernandes, recent information indicates Manchester United intends to offer a higher fee than the Spanish club to secure the player.

Details on Matheus Fernandes Transfer Progress

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a deal is in progress for Fernandes to join Manchester United this summer.

According to Romano, Fernandes is highly interested in the move, but Manchester United still need to finalize negotiations with West Ham over the transfer fee.

Romano stated on his YouTube channel: “Manchester United want to get the player. Manchester United are in direct contact with the player’s camp and the player is very keen on a move to Manchester United.”

He further added: “Man United will want to spend less than this [£85 million].”

Manchester United’s Position on Elliot Anderson

Regarding Elliot Anderson, Romano clarified that Manchester United will not attempt to hijack his transfer, which appears increasingly destined for Manchester City.

He explained: “The understanding is that Manchester United will not enter the deal. So Manchester United are not planning for a hijack for Anderson.”

Romano also noted: “Elliot Anderson still wants to go to Manchester City.”
