Manchester United Plans Six Transfers Amid Uncertain Future for Rashford
Manchester United is preparing up to six transfers this summer while discussions about Marcus Rashford's future are scheduled for this week.

Manchester United is preparing for an active summer transfer window, aiming to complete its first deal soon and pursue several additional signings. The club is also focused on resolving the future of key players, including Marcus Rashford.
Michael Carrick is currently working to secure Bruno Fernandes’ commitment to a new contract as part of the club's strategy to demonstrate its ambitions as a title contender. Alongside this, United plans a series of transfer moves to reinforce the squad.
Discussions regarding Rashford’s situation are set for this week, with the England winger’s next steps still uncertain. Reports indicate that both Rashford and Barcelona manager Hansi Flick want him to stay at Camp Nou following a successful loan spell, where Rashford scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists.
Barcelona is required to pay £26 million to sign Rashford permanently, a figure they reportedly attempted to negotiate down earlier this year, but Manchester United rejected those efforts. Recent information suggests Barcelona might prefer another loan season before a permanent transfer next summer, but United insists on a sale rather than another loan.
Rashford, once a key player at United, lost favor under previous managers Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim. Carrick is reportedly open to welcoming him back, although Rashford’s preferred option is a long-term contract with Barcelona.
Other potential destinations for Rashford could emerge during this week’s talks. Jose Mourinho has shown interest in signing him if he becomes Real Madrid’s manager, but the club’s ongoing elections have delayed that appointment.
Rashford’s transfer is one of seven that Manchester United is reportedly targeting as part of a broad squad overhaul this summer. Among the potential signings is Atalanta midfielder Ederson, who is close to agreeing to a deal worth approximately £40 million.
Manchester United has reportedly shortlisted several midfield candidates, including Mateus Fernandes, Carlos Baleba, and Sandro Tonali, alongside Ederson, who has reportedly agreed to personal terms. The club appears less confident about signing players like Elliot Anderson or Adam Wharton, despite recent rumors.
Mateus Fernandes may be a more attainable option following West Ham’s relegation, while Tonali could be available as Newcastle seeks funds after missing European qualification. Baleba was linked with United last summer, but the club balked at Brighton’s £100 million valuation. That price has reportedly decreased, although United’s current interest remains unclear after Baleba’s inconsistent season.
To finance these acquisitions, United may sell players including Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, and Andre Onana. Rashford’s sale, whether to Barcelona or another club, would also contribute significant funds.
United is reportedly willing to sell Ugarte before his market value declines further, as he has not met expectations following his £50 million transfer. Zirkzee had considered his future earlier this year amid interest from Roma but has since committed to Manchester United.
Casemiro’s departure is expected to free up about £16 million annually, as the club seeks replacements for his midfield role. Multiple midfield signings may be necessary to cover the gap left by his exit.
