Mason Greenwood is close to joining Fenerbahce, with Manchester United set to benefit from a 50% sell-on clause in the transfer deal.

Mason Greenwood is reportedly close to completing a transfer to Fenerbahce, a move that would generate a substantial financial return for Manchester United due to a sell-on clause included in his previous transfer.
Greenwood rose through Manchester United's youth system and was anticipated to have a significant future at the club. However, ahead of the 2023/24 season, United decided to transfer him following serious legal allegations.
The 24-year-old left Manchester United after being charged with attempted rape and assault, while the club also conducted its own internal inquiry. The Crown Prosecution Service eventually dropped the case after key witnesses withdrew, diminishing the likelihood of a conviction. Despite this, Manchester United opted not to reinstate Greenwood to avoid public relations issues.
Following his departure, Greenwood moved to Europe to continue his career, initially joining Getafe on loan before signing permanently with Marseille. The transfer fee for his move to Marseille was approximately £26 million, a figure below his market value, but Manchester United secured a 50% sell-on clause in the agreement.
During his two seasons at Marseille, Greenwood has made 81 appearances, contributing 48 goals and 17 assists. Nevertheless, reports indicate tensions between Greenwood and Marseille's management, with the club reportedly open to transferring him during the current summer window.
Although a transfer to Serie A's AS Roma initially seemed probable, Turkish club Fenerbahce has now become the frontrunner to acquire Greenwood. According to a report by the French outlet Foot Mercato, an agreement between Greenwood and Fenerbahce is nearing completion, with the Turkish side prepared to meet Marseille's financial demands.
Journalist Nicolo Schira confirmed on X that Greenwood has shown willingness to join Fenerbahce following a substantial offer from the club. Schira noted that Fenerbahce is negotiating with Marseille, who are seeking between 50 and 55 million euros to finalize the sale.
Further details from Schira indicate that Fenerbahce has proposed a long-term contract to Greenwood, offering an annual salary of €8 million plus bonuses, while discussions with Marseille continue.
If Marseille secures a transfer fee of 55 million euros (approximately £47 million), Manchester United would receive around £23.5 million from the sell-on clause embedded in the original deal.
