Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentina national team, trained alone during the first session of the team's preparations in the United States for the 2026 World Cup, causing concern for coach Lionel Scaloni. This solo training is part of Messi's ongoing rehabilitation program following an injury.

Messi, who also plays for Inter Miami, has been sidelined since May 24 due to a muscular strain in the left hamstring. Despite this, the medical staff anticipates he will be ready to participate in Argentina's opening match against Algeria on June 16.

The 38-year-old joined the national team camp in Kansas City, where he underwent individual training separate from the group during Monday's practice.

Messi was not the only player training separately; several others continued their treatment and rehabilitation programs. These players include Emiliano Martínez, Nico Paz, Leandro Paredes, Nico González, Thiago Almada, Gonzalo Montiel, and Nahuel Molina.

The Argentine Football Association issued an official statement confirming that players with minor injuries or physical issues are working with the medical team through specialized training sessions on the field. The association noted that their recovery is progressing positively.

On a positive note for Scaloni ahead of the friendly match against Honduras on Saturday, both Cristian Romero and Julián Álvarez have returned to full participation in group training after recovering from injuries.

Argentina's final friendly match before the World Cup defense will be against Iceland on June 9 in Alabama. Following that, the team will face Algeria on June 16, Austria on June 22, and Jordan on June 27.
