Manchester United’s recent transfer activities have positioned the club for a return to elite competition, with interim manager Michael Carrick now permanently appointed to lead the team.

Since INEOS took over ownership, despite some missteps by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club’s transfer dealings have improved significantly compared to the previous management, helping to restore the team’s competitive edge.

United’s successful qualification for the Champions League was supported by Carrick’s tactical adjustments, which revitalized a squad previously limited under former head coach Ruben Amorim.

Following a strong finish to the season with 12 wins in 17 matches, Carrick’s permanent appointment was confirmed, allowing the club to begin its summer transfer plans ahead of many rivals.

With Champions League football secured, Carrick faces the challenge of managing the squad across up to four competitions next season, necessitating a busy transfer window to build depth and quality.

United have already signed Atalanta’s Ederson Silva, marking the first of potentially three midfield additions intended to compensate for the departures of Casemiro and possibly Manuel Ugarte.

Reports indicate that the club aims to make around five further signings across other positions after completing the midfield rebuild, focusing on strengthening the squad’s overall depth.

Most new players are expected to provide squad depth rather than immediate starting roles, but this could change if Manchester United finalize a £115 million double signing currently under consideration.

Projected Manchester United Starting Lineup Under Carrick

Goalkeeper Senne Lammens is set to remain the first choice following an impressive debut season that outshone predecessor Andre Onana and earned him recognition as a contender for Premier League signing of the season.

The defensive line is likely to resemble last season’s setup, with right-back Diogo Dalot and a central pairing of Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez.

Dalot has been a consistent performer, rated around 7 out of 10, though future upgrades may be sought in upcoming transfer windows.

Maguire and Martinez formed Carrick’s preferred centre-back duo during the season’s closing stages, a combination expected to continue given Matthijs de Ligt’s injury struggles.

At left-back, Luke Shaw could maintain his starting role after a strong return to form and consistent availability, but his reliability remains uncertain, with Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall viewed as a promising upgrade candidate.

Hall is considered a younger, improved version of Shaw and is regarded as a potential England World Cup squad member, making him a natural fit for an elite club’s left-back position.

In midfield, Kobbie Mainoo has emerged as a guaranteed starter following a notable improvement over six months, potentially partnered by Matheus Fernandes.

Ederson will provide a defensive midfield option, playing in matches suited to his style, while Fernandes, adept in a deeper role, could help control games alongside Mainoo with his excellent passing and composure.

Further forward, Carrick is expected to have more tactical options next season, though the starting attacking lineup is likely to remain unchanged, featuring Bryan Mbeumo, captain Bruno Fernandes, and Matheus Cunha supporting striker Benjamin Sesko.
