Roberto Carlos Backs Perez for Real Madrid Presidency and Confirms Mourinho as Next Coach

Roberto Carlos, the legendary former Real Madrid left-back, revealed new insights regarding the current club president Florentino Perez and the upcoming presidential elections, stating that "interesting things are coming."

The Real Madrid presidential campaign is entering its final hours, with only two days remaining before the vote.

While Enrique Riquelme has drawn significant attention with his proposals and candidate list, Florentino Perez continues to rally support from the club's historic figures. Roberto Carlos was among the most prominent guests on the program "La Revuelta," where he spoke candidly about the club's current situation and the election process.

The former left-back did not hide his preferred candidate, expressing full confidence in Perez’s continuation as president, saying, "It will be a very important election again. I will vote for Florentino, and I believe we will win by a comfortable margin."

When asked by the host Broncano about the identity of the next Real Madrid coach, Roberto Carlos dismissed doubts about the club’s technical direction, supporting the narrative presented by Perez: "If the president says Mourinho is the coach, then that is how it is."

The Brazilian star highlighted a key aspect he values in Perez’s management, noting, "There is something very important that Perez does here, which is giving a significant role to the club’s general assembly members. He has always said they are the true owners of the club, and now he is fulfilling his promise. Real Madrid belongs to its members."

During the interview, Roberto Carlos addressed Perez with affectionate words, joking, "I call him ‘Dad’ and he always scolds me. He has been amazing with me. He came to find me in Turkey to be the club’s ambassador. When we were together, we won the Champions League title, and we traveled together for long periods. He is the best president in football history."

Roberto Carlos also explained that rival club supporters prefer Perez to leave Real Madrid’s presidency, stating, "Sometimes I talk with my friends who support Atletico Madrid or Barcelona, and they do not want Florentino to continue at Real Madrid because he wins many titles and always signs the best players. Certainly, interesting things are coming."

The former player took the opportunity to defend Real Madrid’s transfer policy, affirming, "We show great respect and do not negotiate with players under contract with their clubs. We respect players’ contracts, and if a player expresses a desire to play for Real Madrid, then discussions can begin, but we always respect everyone."

Roberto Carlos concluded by dismissing any intention to run for Real Madrid’s presidency in the future, laughing, "First, I do not have the financial requirements to run, and second, I still have many children to take care of. I am very happy to have 11 children because, in the end, they will take care of me."
