Cristiano Ronaldo, 41, and Georgina Rodríguez, 32, are now officially husband and wife, according to a statement issued via the Brunswick Group. The ceremony was described as a private and intimate occasion attended by their five children.

Their marriage follows nearly ten years of relationship, announced formally without fanfare or large-scale celebration—despite days of speculation and multiple false reports about wedding plans. The actual ceremony took place in complete secrecy. The sole official photograph released is the one jointly posted by Ronaldo and Rodríguez on their social media accounts, clearly showing their interlocked hands and prominent wedding rings.

Widespread conjecture had circulated regarding the location and date of the wedding. Several media outlets reported, beginning in early August, that the event would be held first in Sintra, on the outskirts of Lisbon, then later in Funchal on Madeira Island—the birthplace of Ronaldo. After articles predicted the wedding would take place last Saturday in Funchal, hundreds gathered outside the city’s cathedral awaiting the couple. Instead, they witnessed another pair of newlyweds arriving at the venue.

Funchal Cathedral confirmed to Agence France-Presse, when contacted several days prior, that no wedding ceremony for “CR7” was scheduled—and added that such an event “would have been an honour.”

Ronaldo and Rodríguez first met in Madrid in 2016. Since then, they have built a family under intense global media scrutiny. Their combined social media following across all platforms exceeds 750 million people.

Rodríguez, a Spanish fashion model and influencer of Argentine origin, raises their daughter with Ronaldo. He is also father to three other children. The couple regularly shares details of their family life with millions of followers across social networks.

Rodríguez announced their engagement one year ago, posting an Instagram image of their hands displaying a prominent engagement ring. A few months later, Ronaldo—who has won the Ballon d’Or five times and currently plays for Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr—hinted during a British television interview that marriage might occur after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

After maintaining deliberate ambiguity, the couple ultimately chose Cascais—a high-end coastal resort located approximately thirty kilometres west of Lisbon—where they own a villa.

Ronaldo first met Rodríguez in 2017, when she worked as a sales assistant at a Gucci store. In the 2022 Netflix reality series *I Am Georgina*, Ronaldo spoke about the origins of their relationship.

He described her as “a very interesting girl, more mature than her age.” Rodríguez characterized the start of their relationship as “very special.” Initially, Ronaldo did not expect the relationship to last—but later fell in love with her. Reflecting on his earlier assumptions, he said: “I didn’t think at first that the relationship would be this strong, or that I would fall in love with her. Honestly, I didn’t expect it. But after some time, I felt she was the woman of my life.”

In a December 2025 interview with the Spanish magazine *Elle*, Rodríguez recalled Ronaldo’s surprise proposal, stating she was “shocked” at the moment. She said: “The truth is that when he proposed, it was the last thing I expected. It took me a long time to process the size of the stone he gave me. I was so stunned that I left it in my room and didn’t see it in sunlight until the next day.”

She described the engagement ring as “stunning,” adding jokingly: “It’s the least he could offer me after ten years of waiting.”
