Saudi National Team Falls to Ecuador in World Cup Warm-Up
Saudi Arabia lost 2-1 to Ecuador in their first friendly under coach Georgios Donis ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The Saudi national football team was defeated 2-1 by Ecuador in their initial friendly match under the guidance of new coach Georgios Donis. The game took place early Sunday morning at the Sports Illustrated stadium.
Ecuador's victory was secured by two goals: Jackson Porozo scored in the 34th minute of the first half, and Anthony Valencia added a second goal in the 50th minute.
Saudi Arabia's only goal came late in the match, with Sultan Al-Mandash scoring in the 87th minute.
The Saudi team is scheduled to play a second friendly match against Senegal on June 10, 2026, ahead of their participation in the World Cup.
In the 2026 World Cup, Saudi Arabia is placed in Group H alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
The team will open their World Cup campaign facing Uruguay, followed by a match against Spain, and will conclude the group stage by playing Cape Verde.
