Professor Leonid Chutko highlights that forgetfulness, persistent anxiety, and shopping addiction can be signs of adult ADHD, which often presents differently than in children.

Professor Leonid Chutko from the St. Petersburg University of Pediatrics has identified forgetfulness and shopping addiction as potential symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults.
He explains that symptoms such as forgetfulness, ongoing internal anxiety, compulsive shopping, frequent car accidents, and job changes may all indicate adult ADHD.
Chutko notes that approximately 50-60% of children diagnosed with ADHD recover by adolescence. However, in adults, symptoms often emerge during working age and differ from those observed in children.
"Hyperactivity, or the inability to restrain movement, is less evident in adults. It is uncommon for an adult to be unable to sit still. Instead, they experience continuous internal anxiety, which tends to increase," he said.
Additionally, adults with ADHD may exhibit impulsivity, including excessive shopping, struggle with fulfilling work responsibilities and meeting deadlines, face depression, and have difficulties with driving, making them more prone to traffic accidents.
According to Professor Chutko, not all individuals with ADHD will display these problems, and overall, the disorder is treatable.
