The Litani River National Authority sent a letter to the Bekaa Governor Judge Kamal Abu Jouda, requesting urgent measures to prevent passage and gatherings within the authority's acquisitions in the vicinity of the Qaraoun Dam, and coordination with the Qaraoun municipality and the relevant security forces to prevent frequenting cafes, tourist spots, and recreational facilities located within the perimeter surrounding the dam, in order to preserve public safety and protect the dam and the water facilities associated with it from any potential risks.

This letter comes amid serious security threats and developments and repeated Israeli attacks that targeted the vicinity of the Qaraoun Dam and the facilities associated with it, particularly the raids that affected the road adjacent to the dam, which is technically and engineeringly considered an integral part of the back structure of the Qaraoun Dam (Riprap aval du barrage de Qaraoun), and forms an essential part of the dam's engineering protection system.

The authority explains that this part performs a fundamental structural function consisting of stabilizing rocks and backfill and preventing their sliding towards the base of the dam, and an engineering support wall was built along it to protect the dam body and maintain its stability and prevent any potential effects or landslides that might affect the vital water facility.

The authority also requested assigning the municipal police and security forces to monitor the implementation of these measures and to be strict in preventing any violation or gathering within the mentioned area, and to take the necessary precautionary measures to protect citizens and public facilities, until the situation stabilizes and the necessary technical and engineering assessments are conducted.
