Berri Warns Against Ending UNIFIL Mission Before Full Implementation of Resolution 1701
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri warned against terminating the UNIFIL mission in southern Lebanon before the complete implementation of Resolution 1701 and the full end of Israeli occupation.

Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri received German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan and her accompanying delegation at the Second Presidential Palace in Ayn al-Tineh, attended by the German Ambassador to Lebanon Thomas ZAHNEISEN and the Media Advisor to the Speaker Ali Hamdan. The meeting discussed general developments in Lebanon and the region, as well as field updates resulting from Israel's continued aggression against Lebanon, its systematic destruction of Lebanese villages and towns in the south, and its non-compliance with international legitimacy resolutions, foremost among them Resolution 1701, nor with agreements concluded in 2024 and recently the framework agreement, both under American sponsorship.
President Berri warned of "the danger of ending the mission of the International Emergency Force operating in southern Lebanon before the full implementation of Resolution 1701 and the complete termination of the Israeli occupation."
The Speaker of the Parliament stressed "the necessity of strengthening partnership between Lebanon, the Federal Republic of Germany, and the European Union, and continuing to provide support to the Lebanese Army."
Among the visitors was the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross Delegation in Lebanon Agnes Dhur, where an overview was presented on the tasks and work programs of the ICRC in Lebanon, particularly those related to the files of displaced persons and Lebanese prisoners held by the Israeli occupation forces.
