Dame Barbara Woodward, the British Deputy National Security Adviser for International Affairs, concluded her two-day visit to Lebanon on July 1–2. According to a statement from the British Embassy, the visit concentrated on strengthening cooperation with the United Kingdom, supporting regional stability, and reaffirming the UK's firm commitment to Lebanon's security and sovereignty.

During her visit, Woodward met with Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Metri, and Army Commander Brigadier General Rudolf Heikal. She was accompanied by Ambassador Haimish Cowell. The discussions emphasized the United Kingdom's support for Lebanon's efforts to extend state authority across its entire territory, strengthen official institutions, and back a political settlement aligned with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

Woodward reiterated the UK's strong support for the Lebanese government and welcomed recent historic decisions, including the announcement of the trilateral framework agreement between Lebanon, Israel, and the United States. She noted that this agreement will be pivotal in advancing progress toward the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, the disarmament of Hezbollah, and the full deployment of the Lebanese army throughout Lebanon.

The visit also highlighted the UK's readiness to play a role in supporting this diplomatic process through humanitarian and development assistance, as well as its fundamental support for the Lebanese army. The UK continues to back the army, described as Lebanon's sole legitimate defender, by enabling sustainable deployment and effective operations through border security infrastructure, training, and equipment.

Woodward praised the army's efforts in securing the border with Syria, addressing serious challenges in the south, and maintaining stability during a very difficult period.

She pointed out that the visit occurred at a critical moment as Lebanon and its partners work toward achieving a sovereign and peaceful future. The UK will continue to support diplomatic efforts aimed at securing lasting peace and security for Lebanon and Israel, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only path to a permanent political settlement, leading to Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon, Hezbollah's disarmament, and the full deployment of the Lebanese army.

Ambassador Haimish Cowell described Woodward's visit as significant, noting that the United Kingdom welcomes the announcement of the trilateral framework agreement between Lebanon, Israel, and the United States. He affirmed the UK's ongoing commitment to Lebanon's stability and sovereignty and its close cooperation with Lebanese and international partners to promote peace and protect civilians.
