European Delegation Visits Palestinian Embassy to Examine Refugee Situation in Lebanon

Special Representative of the Palestinian President, member of Fatah's Central Committee, and Commissioner for External Relations Yasser Abbas, and Palestinian Ambassador to the Lebanese Republic Muhammad al-Asad received Member of the European Parliament Benedetta Scuderi and former Vice-President of the European Parliament Luisa Morgantini at the Palestinian Embassy in Beirut, as part of their mission "Occhi in Libano" in Lebanon, which includes a series of meetings and visits to examine the situation and developments in the country.

Also present at the meeting were Revolutionary Council member of Fatah and President of the General Union of Palestinian Women Amna Jabri, advisor Banan Ghanem, and Head of the Embassy's Media Department Wissam Abu Zaid.

The meeting reviewed the latest developments regarding the Palestinian issue, the political and living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and the challenges they face, reaffirming the Palestinian people's right to live in freedom and dignity and to achieve their legitimate national rights.

According to a statement from the Embassy's media office, Abbas briefed the delegation on "the Palestinian electoral path and the timeline for upcoming electoral milestones, including elections for the National Council, the Legislative Council, and the presidency," with discussions held on the possibility of cooperation with the European Union and leveraging its expertise in monitoring legislative elections in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip, contributing to enhancing the integrity, transparency, and inclusiveness of the electoral process and ensuring Palestinian participation across all Palestinian territories.

In turn, Ambassador al-Asad emphasized "the importance of strengthening the European role in confronting settlement expansion, settlers' attacks, and Israeli policies threatening Palestinian land and undermining the possibility of establishing an independent Palestinian state," stressing the need for more effective political and diplomatic pressure on Israel, protecting the Palestinian people, and supporting their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.

Scuderi and Morgantini, for their part, affirmed their "support for the Palestinian people's legitimate national rights, the necessity of ending the occupation, halting settlement activities, protecting civilians, and respecting international law," underscoring the importance of continuing the European role in supporting the Palestinian people’s right to freedom, self-determination, and the establishment of their independent state.
