The Finance and Budget Committee, chaired by MP Ibrahim Kanaan, will tomorrow discuss the urgent draft law transmitted by the government via Decree No. 4210, which aims to open an additional allocation worth 8 trillion and 950 billion Lebanese pounds, equivalent to one hundred million dollars, in the general budget for 2026, within the budget reserve chapter, to settle part of the dues of the Electricity Company of Lebanon.

The discussion of the draft comes within the framework of addressing the file through legal channels, starting from the rejection of burdening citizens with the consequences of accumulated dues or punishing them twice, as Kanaan announced days ago, after they paid their bills and then were deprived of service. The additional allocation is expected to be included on the agenda of the legislative session scheduled for next week, following its approval in the Finance Committee.

Kanaan had previously emphasized that providing the allocation constitutes a step towards settling part of the obligations, but it does not replace addressing the causes of the crisis and determining responsibilities for its accumulation.
