France Condemns Death of UNIFIL Soldier and Urges Respect for Resolution 1701
France expressed sorrow over the killing of a Serbian UNIFIL soldier and called for adherence to UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

The French embassy issued a statement condemning the killing of a Serbian soldier serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
It stated, "France received with deep sorrow the news of the death of a Serbian soldier from the peacekeeping forces on June 4, 2026, while serving within UNIFIL."
France extended its sincere condolences to Serbia, the soldier’s family, loved ones, and all members of UNIFIL. The statement also wished a speedy recovery to the two other UNIFIL soldiers wounded in the attack.
Since hostilities began on March 2, seven UNIFIL soldiers have been killed in southern Lebanon while carrying out peacekeeping duties. France called for a thorough investigation into these incidents and demanded that those responsible be apprehended and brought to justice.
France urged all parties to respect United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and to refrain under all circumstances from endangering the safety of UN personnel, in accordance with international law and the Convention on the Safety of United Nations Personnel. It also called on all conflicting parties to adhere to the terms of the ceasefire agreement signed on June 3 in Washington, D.C., between the legitimate representatives of the Lebanese and Israeli governments. The statement emphasized that UNIFIL must be able to fully carry out its mandate, which is crucial following the establishment of a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon."
