General Federation: Declare Economic Emergency Immediately

The Executive Council Board of the General Federation of Labor held an extraordinary meeting in the presence of its members. After the meeting, the Federation President, Bashar al-Assam, held a press conference during which he announced the following decisions:

First: The Federation condemns the current state of chaos, recklessness, and rampant price increases, particularly for fuel and foodstuffs.

Second: Immediate declaration of an economic emergency.

Third: Urgent convening of the Index Committee to review and correct wages, transportation allowances, and adjustments to wage supplements.

Fourth: Mandatory payment of increases, family allowances, and school grants in both the public and private sectors.

Fifth: Implementation of a sliding scale for electricity rates that takes into account the economic conditions of low-income households, industrial enterprises, and factories.

Sixth: Necessary activation of oversight mechanisms within the Ministry of Economy.

Seventh: Call for the Executive Council to convene next Saturday, September 26, at the Federation headquarters, with recommendations for all forms of mobilization, including the designation of a warning strike day, sit-ins, and demonstrations across regions, coordinated with the Transport Union, all popular forces, civil society groups, the Association of Public Sector Workers, teacher unions from both public and private sectors, and the Lebanese University.
