Germany and France Seek Joint Policy to Enhance Peace Prospects in Lebanon
Germany and France plan to develop a joint policy toward Lebanon aimed at increasing the chances for peace in the Near and Middle East.

German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul announced the intention to collaborate with France in formulating a joint policy toward Lebanon to improve the prospects for peace in the Near and Middle East. The minister did not provide further details regarding this initiative.
Simultaneously, Wadephul revealed in an interview with the German newspaper Tagesspiegel, ahead of the upcoming German-French cabinet meeting, that additional joint initiatives with France are planned. He explained that the two countries aim to strengthen Europe's capacity to act in foreign policy by, among other measures, ending the "overlapping of competences" in the European Union's external policy.
