New Escalation Fuels Ukraine War: Putin Bets on 'Wearing Down the West'
Russia and the West continue their test of wills amid Moscow's escalating rhetoric and hybrid warfare against Europe, as attacks on Ukraine intensify. Western leaders urge greater resolve in response.

"Tests of will" between Russia and the West continue, as Moscow escalates its statements and intensifies its hybrid war against Europe, coinciding with heightened strikes on Ukraine, amid growing Western calls for greater firmness.
As the confrontation appears set to persist longer, Russian President Vladimir Putin pledged to intensify the war against Ukraine, "unconcerned about his failures," according to France's Le Figaro, while remaining steadfast in pursuing his long-term goals.
The French newspaper added in its report that Ukraine, facing Russian president's determination, continues resisting and responding to attacks, relying on support from Western countries, which in turn seek to demonstrate unity in their stance toward the war.
French President Emmanuel Macron said on social media on Monday, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence: "Ukraine stands strong.. A free people cannot be subdued."
In a sign of the importance of this position, partners of the "Coalition of the Willing" held a new meeting the same day, taking an additional step to reaffirm their commitment to providing "firm support" to the Ukrainian people.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, during his visit to Kyiv—the first foreign trip since assuming office—said: "Today and every day you prove Russia has failed."
Burnham later co-chaired the "Coalition of the Willing" meeting alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, held in a hybrid format.
The meeting was expected to discuss weapons provided by Western nations to Ukraine, along with mounting threats facing Europe, as European countries remain skeptical about the extent of U.S. commitment to stand with them.
Nevertheless, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a statement on Monday affirming Washington’s commitment to seeking a lasting peace in Ukraine, signaling continued American involvement in efforts to end the war.
Le Figaro notes that Western nations find themselves under continuous pressure to demonstrate their ability to maintain unity, as Moscow seeks to increase military and political pressure on Ukraine and escalate its hybrid warfare tools against Europe.
