Karami chaired the first meeting of the oversight body for implementing the general education curriculum

Minister of Education and Higher Education Riya Karami chaired the first meeting of the Oversight Body for Implementing the Curriculum on Thursday, attended by General Director of Education Fadi Yirki, President of the Educational Research and Development Center Professor Hayam Issa, and the Minister's Senior Advisor for Education and Higher Education Dr. Adnan Amin.

The body comprises 20 members representing the Educational Research and Development Center, the General Directorate of Education, several educational institutions, teacher associations, and experts in education, law, and finance. The establishment decree stipulates that members serve on a voluntary basis.

Minister Karami opened the session, welcoming members and emphasizing that "this phase represents a fundamental national milestone in implementing Lebanon's general education curriculum, and successful implementation requires planning, organization, coordination among all relevant parties, and adherence to the timeline that the body must define," noting that "the body aims through coordination to provide the necessary technical supervision and institutional coordination to ensure the success of the implementation process."

Dr. Hayam Issa, Vice President, welcomed attendees and introduced the participating members, highlighting that "the revised curriculum is the outcome of a four-year national effort culminating in the issuance of Decree No. 3445 dated July 15, 2026, and the body's responsibility lies in overseeing its implementation to preserve the quality of this national endeavor and ensure achievement of its objectives."

Dr. Adnan Amin then reviewed the decree establishing the Oversight Body for Implementing the Curriculum and the nature of the oversight it conducts.

He clarified that "the first phase of the body's work focuses on supervising the development of pedagogical, technical, financial, legal standards, specifications documents, teacher training plans, pilot testing, implementation, periodic evaluation, and funding. These documents will serve as the operational guidelines for implementation."

Subsequently, body members discussed their operational procedures, mechanisms for forming working committees, scope of authority, required legislative and regulatory measures for curriculum implementation, and approved the agenda for the next meeting along with necessary preparations.
