Lebanese President Aoun Thanks Italy for Support, Calls for South Stability
President Joseph Aoun met Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and President Sergio Mattarella in Rome, thanking Italy for multilevel support to Lebanon and urging international pressure on Israel to implement the Washington-brokered framework agreement.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun held talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during a visit to Rome, reviewing bilateral relations between Lebanon and Italy and exploring avenues for advancement across all sectors. Aoun expressed gratitude for “the support Italy provides to Lebanon on all levels.”
Discussions on Southern Lebanon and the Framework Agreement
Aoun and Meloni discussed the general situation in Lebanon, with particular focus on developments in the south amid ongoing Israeli attacks. The Lebanese president underscored the necessity of pressing Israel to comply fully with the Framework Agreement reached during trilateral Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations in Washington.
Italy’s Role in Mediation and UNIFIL Transition
Aoun acknowledged Italy’s hosting of the trilateral negotiations and commended the Italian role in reinforcing security and stability in southern Lebanon. The two leaders also addressed the phase following the conclusion of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)’s current mandate, as well as broader regional conditions.
Aoun separately met Italian President Sergio Mattarella, with both sides exchanging views on Lebanese-Italian relations and regional developments.
Lebanese Ambassador to Italy Carla Jezar attended both meetings.
