An investment agreement in the cannabis and medicinal aromatic plants sector was signed today at the Grand Serail between Lebanon and China.

The Lebanese side was represented by Mahmoud Makiyeh, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, who was authorized by the Council of Ministers to sign the agreement. On behalf of China, the agreement was signed by a representative of Tsitonghua Liantchuang International Holding Limited.

Following the signing, Agriculture Minister Nizar Hani stated, "The significance of this agreement lies in opening the door for major global companies, including the Chinese company, to invest in the cannabis and medicinal and aromatic plants sector in Lebanon. This is an important step for the authority, to which we extend congratulations on this achievement, and it also represents a key milestone in the Lebanese-Chinese cooperation path."

Minister Hani added, "As is known, last week we began cooperation in the field of agricultural drones, and this agreement represents a second step in that trajectory. We hope it will be followed by substantial future projects related to the cannabis industry and the Lebanese agricultural sector in general."

Judge Mahmoud Makiyeh commented, "After the Council of Ministers' approval and completion of all procedures, the agreement was signed today. My appointment as Director General of the Regulatory Authority for Medical and Industrial Cannabis Cultivation by the Council of Ministers aimed to ensure the continuity of public service, particularly the signing of this agreement. Now that the agreement has been signed, my mission is practically complete, and I will not undertake any administrative work related to the authority pending the appointment of a Director General by the Council of Ministers."

The signing ceremony was attended by Dani Fadel, Chairman of the Regulatory Authority for Medical and Industrial Cannabis Cultivation, members of the authority, and representatives of the Chinese embassy.
