Lebanon Proposes Roadmap, Israel Demands War Powers Restriction
Lebanon presents a multi-step roadmap in Washington while Israel insists on centralizing war and peace decisions with the Lebanese state.

A 45-day ceasefire extension remains in place after the Lebanese delegation successfully resisted an Israeli push for a shorter timeline, according to information reported by Al-Jadeed on Saturday.
The Lebanese delegation presented a comprehensive roadmap during talks in Washington. The proposed sequence begins with a ceasefire, followed by an Israeli withdrawal, then prisoner exchanges and the handover of remains, culminating in reconstruction efforts and the return of displaced persons.
Israeli Conditions and US Mediation
Israel countered by demanding that all decisions regarding war and peace be exclusively held by the Lebanese state, accompanied by a gradual implementation mechanism for these terms. The American mediator reportedly showed understanding of the Lebanese perspective during the discussions.
A scheduled meeting on May 29 is expected to address security and military issues between the two sides. However, Lebanese authorities have yet to form their military delegation for these talks.
Upcoming Negotiation Rounds
A senior official stated that there is no alternative to negotiation and diplomacy. During the rounds scheduled for June 2 and 3, Ambassador Simon Karam will again lead the session, with discussions set to begin on border demarcation, outstanding points, and the issue of prisoners.
