Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the situation in Lebanon and the Hezbollah militia with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a phone call yesterday, according to Channel 12.

Sources familiar with the conversation told the channel that Netanyahu informed Rubio that Israel cannot remain passive, emphasizing that it is impossible for Beirut to be isolated from Hezbollah.

The sources added that Netanyahu highlighted how this reality complicates the ongoing negotiations, referring to diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.

Earlier today, Channel 13 reported that Israel plans to intensify military operations along its northern border, including launching large-scale attacks deep into Lebanese territory and in Beirut itself.

The channel cited sources indicating that the security leadership has submitted the plan to the political leadership, with the final decision resting with Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has called for the "total elimination of the southern Beirut suburb," in response to Hezbollah firing rockets and drones toward Israel.

During a meeting in the northern Israeli settlement of Shittula on Saturday, Ben-Gvir stated, "Dear Netanyahu, this is the moment to flatten the southern Beirut suburb," adding that he previously opposed the ceasefire, according to Yedioth Ahronoth.

The Israeli minister further said, "The southern Beirut suburb must be flattened; I say this here and also to the prime minister. I love and respect you, but this is the right moment for it."
