Patriarch Maronite Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Raï met with Economy Minister Amir Al-Bassat to discuss Lebanon’s economic and social challenges and the importance of maintaining the country’s foundational values.

At the Patriarchal seat in Bkerki, Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Raï received Economy and Trade Minister Dr. Amir Al-Bassat, accompanied by former Economy Minister Dr. Mansour Batish, in the presence of Bishop Paul Sayah.
The meeting focused on Lebanon’s current economic, social, and living conditions. Minister Al-Bassat presented an overview of the status of economic, productive, and commercial sectors, highlighting the impact of the war on various vital facilities, particularly on economic, tourism, and agricultural activities. He also addressed the burdens caused by internal displacement and the damage inflicted on infrastructure, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.
The discussion further covered the challenges faced by Lebanese citizens in terms of livelihood and social matters, along with ways to strengthen economic resilience and create favorable conditions for growth recovery and confidence restoration.
Patriarch Raï stressed that Lebanon requires peace and stability today to enable its people to regain normal life and continue the path of development. He emphasized the importance of supporting the Lebanese people, reinforcing their resilience and hope during this critical period, and the necessity of preserving Lebanon’s message based on freedom, pluralism, and coexistence.
Minister Al-Bassat affirmed Lebanon’s possession of significant human, cultural, and economic capabilities, noting that Lebanese individuals have proven their success both domestically and abroad. He considered these assets a fundamental base for restoring growth and rebuilding the economy, stating that Lebanon’s competencies, openness, and diversity qualify it to reclaim its role and status whenever suitable conditions arise.
Former Minister Mansour Batish underscored the importance of maintaining Lebanon’s historic message and utilizing the human and economic potentials of its people to advance the nation and enhance its presence and role.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Patriarch Raï thanked Minister Al-Bassat for his presentation on the economic situation, praised the efforts exerted during this critical phase, wished him and the government success in their national responsibilities, and affirmed continued prayers for Lebanon and its people to overcome their crises and regain their role and mission.
