Rassamni: Our Goal Is to Restore Tripoli's Role and Turn Its Potential Into Investment, Growth, and Opportunities

Minister of Public Works and Transport Faiq Rassamni stated, "Tripoli is at a new stage. For years, the city's potential exceeded the attention it received. Today, we have a real opportunity to change this equation."

Rassamni's remarks came during the event "Tripoli: Strategic Partnerships, Investment Future, and Sustainable Development," held at the government palace to sign memorandums of understanding and project contracts aimed at advancing Tripoli and the North.

He said, "The Port of Tripoli possesses something that cannot be created by decree—the location. A strategic position on the eastern Mediterranean, close to the Arab East and regional markets, with waters suitable for developing into a deep-water port." He added, "What we can build is infrastructure, connectivity, services, management, and an environment that attracts investment. This is our responsibility."

He noted, "With the support of President of the Republic General Joseph Aoun and your leadership of the government, we aim to transform the Port of Tripoli from a local cargo handling station into a regional logistics hub on the eastern Mediterranean. Therefore, what is happening today is significant."

He continued, "For the first time at this level, relevant institutions in the North are working together under a shared vision: the Port of Tripoli, the Special Economic Zone, the Railway and Public Transport Authority, along with the concerned ministries. This collaboration is not theoretical."

He stressed, "The Port of Tripoli contributes to funding the feasibility study for the railway line from the port to the Syrian border, and also supports funding the legal, regulatory framework and licensing system study for the Special Economic Zone. For us, this is a genuine partnership, not just coordination between institutions. What’s notable today is that a public institution is financing projects beyond its direct scope because it sees the broader economic interest, not just administrative boundaries. This is a model we want to see more of in the state: institutions sharing resources and responsibility when the goal is unified."

"Ladies and gentlemen, more important than vision is execution. The Port of Tripoli has around twenty development projects ahead over the next three years."

Rassamni affirmed, "Our goal is to restore Tripoli’s role and turn its potential into investment, growth, and opportunities. Because Tripoli’s success is Lebanon’s success. Tripoli for all Lebanon."
