The following statement was issued by the Army Command - Guidance Directorate:

"On 4/11/2026, while a unit of the Army was implementing security measures to prevent smuggling and control the border in the outskirts of Arsal town at the Lebanese-Syrian border, a vehicle equipped with tinted glass and without license plates bypassed an Army observation post element, heading from Syrian territory to Lebanese territory via illegal crossings. The driver attempted to run over the observation post elements, posing an imminent danger to their safety, forcing them to fire warning shots to compel it to stop. At that point, the driver stopped the vehicle and fled to an unknown location.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, it was found to be carrying 12 people of Syrian nationality for smuggling into Lebanese territory. One woman among them was hit by gunfire, and three other people were injured due to flying glass shards. They were transported to a hospital for treatment, and the woman subsequently passed away.

An investigation has been launched under the supervision of the competent judiciary to uncover the circumstances of the incident, and follow-up is underway to arrest the fleeing driver."
