The Maronite Patriarch Mar Bchara Boutros Rai pointed out that "when politics falls upon the ground of narrow interest, it bears no fruit; when decisions are made on the rock of division, they do not stand; and when reform is strangled by the thorns of patronage, it dies."

He continued in his Sunday Mass sermon: "We want Lebanon to be like a good land, a free, sovereign, independent country built on justice and the constitution, and we look forward to the talks currently underway regarding the south and sovereignty bearing fruit in a way that safeguards Lebanon's rights, halts attacks, and ensures withdrawal from our land."
