Teachers' Union Warns of Escalation: Fair Treatment Now!

The Teachers' Union stated in a press release that it "continues its communications with the General Secretariat of Catholic Schools and the Union of Educational Institutions to increase transportation allowances, commensurate with the significant rise in living and commuting costs. The price of a liter of gasoline has more than doubled compared to the same period last year, while the allowance received by teachers remains unchanged."

It called for "doubling the transportation allowance, at minimum," hoping that "ongoing negotiations lead to a swift agreement that alleviates daily burdens on teachers."

In the matter of the compensation fund, the union urged the "Ministry of Finance to accelerate the disbursement of the 200 billion LBP allowance, and to include the remaining 450 billion LBP from the allowance in the 2027 budget, safeguarding the rights of teachers and retirees. The union acknowledges the difficult conditions facing the country and educational institutions, but emphasizes that teachers can no longer bear further delays."

It called on the "Minister of Finance to take immediate practical steps, reserving its right to call for union action if these demands are not met."
