The Situation Is Unsettling... Are We Facing a Food Crisis?

National Association of Food Importers President Hani Boushly said he does not want to confirm whether we will see price increases, "but the situation is unsettling as it appears there is no immediate solution to rising fuel prices, and if the situation worsens in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, we could face a crisis—but this does not mean food supplies will run out or that famine will occur."

He told MFM: "There is a regrettable yet realistic observation that Lebanon has extensive experience managing crises—we have lived through two wars, and yet food supplies were never cut off."

Boushly noted that "the global situation is dire and pressure on Lebanese institutions, especially private ones, is intense," urging the Lebanese government to "rationalize spending and reduce the burden on the public sector, which is crucial and directly impacts the overall situation."
