Violence at Al-Masnaa Border Crossing with Syria; Customs Reveals Details
Lebanese Customs reports a physical altercation at the Al-Masnaa border crossing involving a customs officer and a broker, leading to immediate suspension and military prosecution.
The Lebanese Customs Administration issued the following statement:
"On today's date, Monday, November 2, 2026, a dispute occurred at the Al-Masnaa border crossing with Syria between a first inspector in the Al-Masnaa Customs District and one of the customs transaction brokers, following the latter's refusal to pay the demanded fees. The dispute escalated into a verbal argument, followed by an attempt by the broker to assault the customs employee, resulting in a scuffle and hand-to-hand fighting. Immediate measures were taken to suspend the customs broker from work.
The matter was referred to the Military Public Prosecution, which initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances of what happened and determine responsibilities, pending the adoption of legal procedures as appropriate.
The Customs Administration affirms that objections to customs values and fees are exercised through legal procedures, and that assaulting its employees while performing their duties is unacceptable, and it will follow up on this case before the competent judiciary."
