U.S. police arrested a man who caused a security alert outside the White House after driving his car onto the sidewalk, demanding to speak with President Donald Trump before being taken for mental health evaluation.

The newspaper "Sun" reported that law enforcement officers and military personnel cordoned off the intersection of 16th Street and H Street near Lafayette Square in the afternoon on Saturday, following a vehicle veering onto the sidewalk adjacent to the security fence surrounding the White House.

The paper said Secret Service agents apprehended the man after receiving a report of a security breach, noting that the suspect was driving the car and demanded to speak with the U.S. president after handcuffs were placed on his wrists.

According to the "Sun," officers searched the vehicle and secured the surrounding area, while footage from the scene showed Secret Service agents removing the sport utility vehicle from the site.

Footage shared by an independent White House correspondent on the platform "Pavlovich Today" via "X" showed a convoy of Secret Service four-wheel-drive vehicles arriving at the scene.

The correspondent said Secret Service agents and military personnel were present at the security perimeter but clarified they were "not authorized to disclose" what was happening at the location.

The Secret Service or the White House have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident.

President Donald Trump was in Camp David during the weekend and was not at the White House when the incident occurred.
