Why Did the Rome Negotiations Fail to Achieve Real Progress?

Political sources following the talks revealed that the eighth round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations will be determined by the United States early in September, and the only commitment made was to prevent Israel from expanding its aggression, while other Lebanese demands remained unchanged, except for distant promises regarding prisoners and demarcation.

The sources told "al-Jumhuriya" that Rome witnessed three days of back-and-forth without decisive outcomes: the ceasefire remained rejected, the handling of experimental zones and halting blasting and dredging operations remained pending without guarantees, while Lebanon's list of prisoners was met with 25 names on an "unworkable" remains list. As for demarcation, it has not gone beyond establishing criteria and foundations, and the verifying body has not yet been decided, with Italy advancing over France, which is rejected by the U.S., and Spain, which is rejected by Israel.
