No response has yet reached Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri from Hezbollah's southern Beirut stronghold, despite direct contacts between the Baabda and Ain al-Tineh palaces and indirect channels through Berri himself. The aim: to persuade the party to agree to a ceasefire if Israel does the same.
Intensified internal and external calls from Baabda are expected today as the Lebanese state pushes for Hezbollah's commitment to the process. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts with Washington are focused on convincing the U.S. to help calm the front.
