Lebanon's PM Nawaf Salam met Sri Lanka's new ambassador to discuss the future after the UNIFIL mission ends.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received Sri Lanka's newly accredited ambassador, H.E. Mr. Anura Withanage, in a courtesy visit marking the diplomat's assumption of duties. The discussions centered on the period following the conclusion of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mandate.
Sri Lanka contributes approximately 150 personnel to the international peacekeeping force operating in southern Lebanon, a detail that framed the conversation about the mission's eventual transition. The meeting, described as a protocol visit, touched on the implications for the region once the UNIFIL presence concludes.
